Last year in response to some heart-wrenching stories of families relying on school meals to provide breakfast and lunch for their children, our director, Lara Okpor raised £1230 from friends and family to support 40 families in Enfield Borough with their Christmas lunch.
According to the Department of Work and Pensions, about 1 in 5 people face poverty in the UK. This Christmas, more than ever, life will be like no other, and many families will be facing the squeeze of the cost of living crisis due to inflation, rising interest rates and rising energy prices, amongst others.
To bring some hope to 50 UK families this Christmas, she is raising £1550 from friends, family, clients and colleagues. She is carrying out this outreach through Future In Your House CIC, a social enterprise she champions. Any donations received up to £250 will be matched by Ant Learning. Through everyone’s generosity, she hopes to make a difference in the lives of struggling families within the local communities of Enfield and Dartford/Kent so that the reality of the cost of living crisis does not limit their chance to enjoy the festive season. You can get involved by giving a donation on her gofundme page: https://www.gofundme.com/f/christmaslunchfor50families.
Each Christmas hamper will include a 4kg frozen turkey, 1.5kg Edward potato, the usual Christmas lunch trimmings and much more! Beneficiaries of this fundraising will be nominated by schools in the respective areas and by relevant agencies and will receive the hampers on Tuesday, 20th December 2022 .
